MRS. ALBERT MALLINSON.

RE-VISIT TO AUCKLAND. "If anything would call mc r.acli to New Zealand, it would he the memory of Auckland, and dear oldi Rangitoto," said Mrs. Albert Mallinson, the famous soprano, well known and highly esteemed in Auckland musical circles some eighteen years ago, to a "Star" representative. Mrs. Mallinson will best be remembered by her many friends in this city by the name of Madame Bahnson, who, during her residence of two years in Auckland, figured on many occasions in local concerts. Now, after so long an absence from New Zealand, she is paying a return visit to her erstwhile home, accompanied by her husband, Mr. A. Mallinson, Mr. and Mrs. Mallinson are at present on a tour of Australasia, and arrived yesterday in Auckland, where they are to give two concerts. " Yes, indeed," said Mrs. Mallinson, " I am very glad to be back in Auckland once more, if only for so brief a visit. Auckland is wonderfully attractive after a long absence like this, and the sight of the old landmarks, and especially beautiful Rangitoto, recalls many happy memories of the years I lived here. Since leaving here in 1800, and after a residence of some years in Melbourne, I returned with Mr. Mallinson to Europe, and during our eleven years there, have toured all through Germany, Denmark (my native country), Sweden and England. Our residence is at Dresden, but after leaving England we came straight out to Australia. It hag really been a delightful time. We have seen many countries, and have been very successful right through. But I do not come back to Auckland in the same capacity as when last 1 was here. Ido not come back now merely to sing. I have come to interpret, and. I wish' my voice only to be a means 6fl service to interpret the best of art. 1 never sing to anyone's accompaniment but my husband's, and he never plays to anyone except mc." Mrs. Mallinson has tho distinction of being the first artist to tour tho colonies of any who have been accorded the patronage of Her Ma jesty Queen Alexandra. Besides singing before the Queen, she has also appeared before their Majesties the King and Queen of Denmark. Her husband, Mr. A. Mallinson, is well known, especially in Australia, and Europe, as a composer, many of his works, which niuhber in the aggregate over 300, having attracted the attention of musical circles in all parts of the Continent. His recitals with Mrs. Mallinson, and especially his achievements as an organist, resulted in highly eulogistic outbursts from the Press. Some 30 concerts are being given in the South, their visit in Auckland thus being limited to about a week or so. Mr. and Mrs. Mallinson afterwards re-visit Sydney and Melbourne. Mrs. Mallinson mentioned that her daughter, who is at present studying in England, has expressed her intention of following her mother on the operatic S A tag , 6 ', lko y QUn S la dy, who was born in [Auckland, still claims New Zealand as her native country, and is determined to pay the Dominion a visit Boon.
