SERIOUS MINING EXPLOSION.
CARCOAR, N.S.W., May 20. A serious alining' explosion, without fatal results, occurred at Messrs G. and C. Hoskins'e ironstone mine, near Carcoar, late yesterday afternoon. Wallace Bailey, who held the position of powder monkey, and John Allanby, shift ganger, were occupied in bulling and charging holes that had been drilled for the purpose of blasting the ironstone. They were working in the bottom lift, and after having bulled a, hole with rackarock, they charged it 'with blasting powder. About seven tots of powder had been placed in the hole, when it suddenly exploded. Bailey was blown out with the ore, and carried several yards. Allanby va< not carried so far. The force of the explosion also knocked several other miners down. Bailey was frightfully injured. He had both his arms mutilated, his eyes and face and head were wounded in a terrible manner, and his body also received the full force of the explosion. Allanby was not as badly injured. His chief injuries were received on the face, and to hie eyes, and he also received nasty bruises on the body.
