A meeting was held at Onehunga last evening, Mr. John Sowe presiding, for the purpose of raising funds for the benefit of the widow and family of the late James Barton. A strong committee was formed, and, after discussion, it was decided to adjourn until Monday evening, in order to meet the Borough Council. It was announced that just on £100 had already been received. Next Wednesday and Thursday the annual gathering of Bands of Hope will be held in the Royal Albert Hall, when action songs by the children will form a leading part.
