DROWNING FATALITY.

■ m A butcher of Mangawhare named John W. Nield was drowned in the river on Tuesday night last. There was a thick fog on the night in question when deceased left the' Mangawhare Hotel for hie home, only a few hundred yards away. On Wednesday morning, when deceased's absence was discovered, a search party discovered signs which went to show that -he had crossed from the footpath to the river side of the main road, and had evidently fallen into the river. His hat and lantern were found on the bank, and soft mud in the -vicinity bore traces of his having crawled about in it. The body has not yet been recovered.
