TEXXIS CHAMPIONSHIPS. The grounds on Saturday all Rbowed the effect of the recent rain, and the courts were generally fast ana sort, several rounds In tbe championship were got off by the various clubs. At West End Grossman met Upton, and was easily beateu. 6— 2, o—l', 7—5. There was very Uttle play iv the first two sets. Upton served exceptionally well, getting ou a largo aniouut of spins, and scored frequently outright. Hia drives also were clean and hard. Grossman seeuicd at sea on tbe soft court, and though he occasionally volleyed well, he made but little headway. In the (bird set be showed rather better form, and reached 3—lo. There was a close struggle for sereral games, Grossman trying hard to get iv and volley, and Upton frequently pnssing him with wellplaced shots down the side lines, or across the Court. They got to 5 all, and then Upton won the last two games, chiefly on bis service. The score fully represents tne difference in piay. Upton has now beaten Grossman twice out of the three times they haye met. and has fully established his right to be classed as tbe better man tor | the season. ! Dr. Keith played Baker and beat him. • 6—l. 6—3. 6—4. Keith played his usual | steady and accurate game, runuing Baker i all over the court. Baker worked hard iv ! the first set. aud occasionally served and \ volleyed well, but could uot keep up with his more experienced opponent. At the Eden and Epsom lawns. W. A. Brown beat Cave in the championships, allowing his opponent to win only one game out of the three sets. Cave was distinctly out of form, and on his present play YV. A. Brown should have a good chance of meeting Grossman in the final round. The semi-finals will be played next Saturday, between W. A. Brown and A. S. Brown on the one side, and between Grossman and the winner of Turner and Baruford on the other. DEVOXPORT MATCHES. CHAMPIONSHIP FIXALS.
