(By Cable.— Press Association.— Copyright)
SYDNEY, November 8. The position m connection with the ■Newcastle district colliery trouble has reached an acute stage. y At a meeting of the Northern Miners' Committee of Management to-day strong comments were made in regard to the new attitude of the proprietors in locking out the members of the Hebburn, Burwood, Lambton B and Northumberland lodges, and also their attitude in regard to other grievances. The committee resolved, "That until such disputes are settled the miners in other pits should, refuse to assist the proprietors to crush our fellowmen, and should therefore not continue working." It was further resolved, "That if the proprietors before Tuesday reinstate the locked-out miners, and also agree to an umpire to be appointed along with a committee, three from each side, to settle grievances, we will recommend a continuance of work."
The proprietors express a determination not to give way. The suggestion has been made for- the intervention of the Premier or the interested Minister.
