The meeting of the Newton Schools Committee xras he!«i iast evening, when there were present: — Messrs I". 11. Sexton i chairma ni. .7. M. Whire I treasurer). W. S. Smith. W. J. Ho«d»-wonJi. R. .lames, E. H. Healey. C S. Waddingham. and G. Read. Mr D. D. Metge reported the Newtou Ea?t sc-hool rnll nrrmber for the month of June as S7O. with an average attendance of 636. Mr A. S. Webber reported the roll number of the Newton West school the week before the holiday* in have been 77u. and the average attendam-e -of 450, the present attendance being 580 out of a roil nnmher of 770. The attendance at the schools has been le?e than the UFunl average on account of sickness. The report of ihs ienrtmastor? with regard to the teachers at the schools were road, and were considered to be satisfactory. The Board of Eduentinn informed tne committee that ■the admittance of i-hil'lren to the Richmond side school was authorised up to standard 111., tiip age of children not to he more than eleven, in accordance with the Education Act. Accounts to the amount of ahoiit £7i> were received and the payment auU^'jri^ed.
