W.C.T. UNION
The ordinary meeting of the W.C.T.U. was held, in tlie Central Hall yesterday afternoon. There was a large attendance of ladles. Petitions for the abolition of tlie totalisator were handed in full, and others issued for signature. Mr. David Wfcyte addressed the meeting on the future plan of campaign, giving a very interesting and instructive talk.
AUCKLAND METHODIST MISSION CIRCUIT.
The quarterly meeting of the above mission was held at Freeman's Bay on Tuesday evening. The superintendent of tie circuit, the Rev. J. Wilson, presided. It was shown that tne income for the quarter ending June 30th was _E3S6 12/2, and the expenditure £161 1/11. The debit balance at the beginning of the quarter was £266 10/3. This had now been reduced to £41. General satisfaction was expressed at the success that had attended the efforts of the mission, and the future is looked forward to with hopefulness. It is proposed to inaugurate a forward movement among boys iv the near future, and a committee comprising the superintendent, Messrs A. C. Brown, J. Tyler, E. Hutson, and J. Holmes was set up to go fully into the matter and report. Tbe annual celebration to commemorate the amalgamation of the missions is fixed for October 20th and 23rd, and the respective annual celebrations of the Sabbath schools are to be carried out on dates to be arranged.
HOPE OF AUCKLAND R_SCHABITES.
. A social was __e_d last evening in tne Foresters' Hall, Newton, by the-Hope of Anckland Tent, No. 1, 1.0. R., in celebration of the __th anniversary of the lodge. Bro. L Davidson, C.R., presided. There was a very large attendance, ___ all appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Tea was partaken of at 6.30 p.m., and was followed by a. concert, an" excellent musical programme being provided. Vocal items were contributed by Mrs. J. W. Stewart Messrs. J- Bowe, F. J. Harrison, W. GOfier, F. Thyer, I. Menzies, and W. J. Holdsvwxrth, P.C.R. A selection on the bagpipes was given by Mr. R. Ewan. and Miss Tina Ewan contributed a iine exhibition of Highland dancing. Mrs. Neave acted as accompanist and Mr. R. Ewan, Jun., as piper. JSFnch amusement was created by a series of comic pictures, ex-hibited-by Mr, W. J. Macdermott. At the conclusion of the evening, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, P.C.R..,- -was - presented with the' P.C.R. jewel by Mr. Macdermott, D.C.R.
