WAIHI, this day. A ceremony of considerable local importance tool, place at the Miners' Union Hall last night, when Mr H. L. Simmons manager of the Grand Junction mine and tvs family were publicly farewelled 'prior to their departure for England. Mr W M. Jackson presided. During the evening Mr Jackson presented Mr Simmons, on behalf of tbp citizens, with" an elabor- ? "greenstone and silver casket, similar to that presented to the Duke and Duchess of York by the citizens of Auckland There was also handed to Mr Simmons a ehetiae for £10. with the request that he wonld secure some scuxenir for.-his children with this balance of the citizens' gift Mr H MacCartn-v, uf the Grand Junction employees' staff, then made a presentation on their behalf. The gift consisted of a hands-me-j- fitted gentleman's travelling bag, and in making the presentation Mr MacCartoey referred in hish terms to Mr Simmons' work, and said tliev had learned to esteem his sense of discipline, as also his level-headed sense of justice. Mr Donaldson also presented Mrs Simmons with a handsome greenstone souvenir spoons mounted in silver, each spo-nn engraved with a distinct desi.n typical of the mining industry. The gifts were _n appropriately acknowledged by Mr Simmons, and a number of musical items were given.
