MT. EDEN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council was held last evenIng. Mr O. Nicholson (Mayor) presided, and there were also present:—Messrs C. J. Tunks, R. A. Crudge, W. C. Hudson, S. J. Burns, E. Yates, E. A. Potter, J. Davis, W. Woolley, and T. S. Jacka. Finance.—The Mayor stated, that the receipts for the past three weeks were £323 13/7, the bank balance being £257 10/11, the net amount available after payment of outstanding cheques being nearly £200. This position was very satisfactory, there being generally a large overdraft at this period of the year. Accident Insurance.—M was decided to Insure the Council's employees in the New Zealand Insurance Company.
Supplies.—The. tender of S. Lovett was accepted for scoria metal and cartage. The town clerk reported that on the basis of the last four years' working, Lovett's tender worked ont at £1268, and that of J. 3. Craig at £1357. These were 4he only two tenders.
Windmill-road.—lt was decided to construct a drain through Windmill-road on the residents paying half the cost.
Abattoir. —The City Council wrote asking the borough to connrm the action of the Road Board in appointing the city abattoir as the abattoir for the district. This was agreed to.
Drainage Conference.—The resolutions adopted at the Drainage Conference were forwarded by the town clerk, and were asreed to.
Eden Vale-road.—lt was agreed to purchase land for the widening of Eden Valeroad for Mrs E. O'Keeffe at a cost of £30.
•Dangerous Blasting.—A complaint was received from A. S. Reid as to dangerous blasting on the allotment adjoining his property. The nature of the rock was such that powerful charges had to be used and pieces of rock had fallen upon the root of Jiis house. He that the Council, having granted a permit, he would hold them responsible for any damage which might be done. The Mayor statefl that the Council's permit merely relieved the owner-or contractor from police prosecution. It was decided to inform 'the writer that the Council Had no liability, and to notify the owner of the property of the complaint. Water Supply.—The foreman reported that the water consumption during the past fortnight was 2.161,000 gallons. :
