(From Our Own Correspondent.)

CAMBRIDGE. Monday. The Assessment Court lor the Tamaliere and Cambridge road districts was held here on Saturday before Mr[ H. W. Northcroft, S.M., and the assessors appointed by the Road Boards above mentioned, namely, Messrs. W. I. Conradi and T. Hartly, respectively. The Government aesesor, Mr. J. Gordon, was unable to be present. There were only two objectors In the Tamahere district, and as neither of them appeared, their valuations were sustained. A large number of the ratepayers of the Cambridge road district objected to the valuations, but many of these had been settled by the valuer interviewing -the -settlers and coming to an arrangement previous to the Court sitting-, so that only 20 were left for the Masistrate to settle. Of these eeven did not appear, and their valuations were sustained, but with one exception the whole of the others were reduced, it was not the capital values thaWwere objected.' to except in two instances. The enormous advance -in the unimproved value was the bone of contention, together with the smallnese of the, sum put upon the improvements. In one instance the unimprovea value was reduced from £6847 to £4«52 and the improvements iwere raised from £3480 to £5675, ana this may be taken as a fair sample, of jnost of the amendments
