MOUNT WELLINGTON ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Mount Wellington Road Board was held at Ellerslie last evening. There were present: Messrs G. Wilkinson (chairman), W. Gavin, A. C. Hill, A. S. Thompson, A. Kay, and Bell (cleri:). *

Waterworks.—Several letters were received from residents asking for the extension of the water supply along a portion of the Great South-road beyond the district boundary. The Manukau Water Supply Trust also asked for information as to the proposed charges for water. The Board decided to inform the Trust that it proposed to charge 2/ per thousand gallons, in addition to cost of service, the minimum to be 5000 gallons 'per quarter. The fact that the engineer's estimate had been greatly exceeded by tenders caused much disappointment, it being shown that instead of having several hundred pounds to work upon, as they had hoped, there was absolutely no balance. , The Quarry.—A letter was received from the Lands Department, stating that the ranger had recommended that the Government should retain the quarry site, but that the Board be allowed to remove all metal required. Abattoirs.—The chairman was deputed to confer with the Town Clerk, Auckland, in reference to a proposal by the City Council to have the new city abattoirs made, available for the use of contiguous districts.
