TWO GIRLS DROWNED.

HEROIC ATTEMPT TO RESCUE CAUSES DOUBLE FATALITY. (By Telegraph.—Press association* GISBORNE, Tuesday. Two daughters of Mr. Henry Currie were drowned in the Waimate River this afternoon. A number of children were bathing, when Dulcie Currie, aged 11, got into difficulties, and her sister, aged '_5, went to the* rescue, with the result that both lost their lives. A youth who came to the scene could not swim, and other help arrived too late. The body of the younger girl has been recovered. GISBORNE, tliis day. The body of Vernon Currie, the elder of the two girls drowned, was found early is morning. It is evident she was irowned whilst attempting to save her sister, a lady resident having seen her get the younger girl on her back and make an effort, to swim to shallow water.
