WELLINGTON FOOTBALL.

WELLINGTON, this day.
There was ideal football weatiier for the senior championship matches which started on Saturday afternoon. Melrose, last season's eliampionsc, met a very weak Athletic combination, and won by 21 points to G. For the winners. Sievers (two tries), Webb, and J. Spencer scoied tries, and G. Spencer potted a goal and Wrigley kicked a penalty goal. The latter also converted :i try. Hales touched down twice for Athletics. A fast and interesting forward game between Old Boys and Wellington ended in tbe younger club's favour by 15 to 3. For 'he winners, MeKenzle. Johnson, and Watkins scored tries, Cleland converting one and kicking a goal from the field. A. Wilson drew blood for Wellington. Poneke, which had the assistance of Cross, an ex-Canterbury and Otago rep. forward, easily vanquished Oriental by '1-1 to nil. Such a handsome victory was quite unexpected.
