WELLINGTON, this day.
Mr. Robert McKenzie, who was the first of the numerous candidates to take the platform in the electoral campaign in the new suburban constituency of Newtown, did not ma_;e a very favourable impression. Hia indictment against the Seddon Government fell decidedly fiat, bummed up, his speech was practically a repetition of the arguments of the Opposition paper, as editorially expressed. His announcement of withdrawal from the contest in favour of the Hon. T. Hislop was not made until the end of his speech, and 95 per cent, of the audience was taken by surprise, although it had been known to a select few that Mr. McKenzie contemplated this step.
