COMPULSORY PROVISIONS TO BE

DROPPED.

(By Telegraph—Parliamentary Reporter.)

WELLINGTON, this day.

It is understood that the Government intends to drop the second part of the State Fire Insurance Bill in committee. This relates to the provisions that statutory insurance of buildings may be brought into operation by a poll of ratepayers. The effect of the excision will be to empower the Government only to undertake tire insurance in competition with existing offices.
