LICENSING CASE.

At the Police Court this afternoon Me. H. W. Babant, S.M., gave his decision in the case, Police v. James Verrall (licensee of the Bricklayers' Arms Hotel). Defendant was charged (l)With permitting- drunkenness on his premises on April 26th; (2) with supplying liquor to Alexander McLeod, a person already in a state of intoxication on May 10th; (3) with permitting drunkenness on May 10th. As to the first charge, His Worship, after reviewing the evidence, said that if he believed the evidence for the defence, defendant could not be convicted. The evidence for the defence was mainly given by bflarders in the house, and he saw no reason to question their bona fides. The defendant's story he believed to be an honest one, and this information would therefore be dismissed. With reference to the other charges, the statements of the witnesses as to the contention that the glass of beer before McLeod was intended for someone else, he considered were inconsistent with one another, and with the evidence of the police.: The information charging defendant with supplying liquor to McLeod would be dismissed, while defendant would be convicted of permitting drunkenness on May .10th.

After hearing argument as to costs,, His Woi-shJp said he would give his decision as to the fine and costs at a future date.
