RAILWAY COLLISION IN OTAGO.
SEVERAL PERSONS INJURED.

• ' DUNEDIN, Monday. What is believed to be a somewhat serious collision occurred on tfie ■ Otago Central railway this evening. '
The down train usually going" to Dunedin was running about two hours late, owing to a slip at Wedderburn. About 400 yards the other side of Hindon it came into collision with the ten minutes to three train from Dunedin. ■' , The two engines and several trucks' of both trains left the rails, and some of the trucks and carriages -were much damaged. One carriage, it is believed, was telescoped. \ v A fireman had his leg broken, and several passengers were injured or knocked about. ■ A relief, engine, with doctor and ambulance appliances, left Dunedin to-night, and may return about one o'clock in the morning. .. . . Very few particulars ar.e available sc far. Mr Grant, the traffic inspector, left on a visit of inspection for the North to-day, and is directing operations by . telegram at Oamar'u. So no details are known here- ■ LATEE. None of the passengers are. b^H(jv* ed to be seriously injured: Fireman Hewitt had his. hip injured, Sergio Major Cardale, drill instructor, and \ Mrs J. Eeid, Wedderburn, are slightlj cut about the head. Mr Taylor, of Middlemareh, is slightly bruised. Two trucks are overhanging the river, being held up by the couplings. Had the collision . occurred higher up, both trains must have gone intp ■'. the river, 40ft or 50ft below. There were 25 passengers in the down train, but, very few on the up train. - '-, One engine was much damaged, also four waggons and one car. Five v/aggons were derailed.
