FIRE IN WELLINGTON.

LABGE PUBLIC SCHOOL BURNED,

WELLINGTON, this day.

The Terrace School, one of the largest schools in the city, was burned to the ground at, 7 o'clock this morning. It was in occupation of the Defence Department. The troops had not been in it since Friday, but the Department was retaining possession until to-morrow, to accommodate for the night men returning from the South. The only insurances were £.50 on the school piano and £50 on the school library, both with the South British Company. The building stood on the high level, and, though the Fire Brigade arrived in good time, they were hampered by. lack of water.
