SAWMILL ACCIDENT.

A MILL HAND SERIOUSLY

INJURED.

A rather serious accident occurred at the works of the Premier Joinery Manufacturing Company, near the Railway Wharf, about twenty minutes to eleven this morning. It appears that one of the mill hands, named George Harrison, went down into the cellar with another man to get out some timber. As Harrison was handing' a plank up his apron string got caught on a small shaft that was revolving in the cellar, and in a second the unfortunate man was dragged cm to the shaft and whirled round with it three or four times, his feet striking the joists overhead at each revolution. The machinery was stopped as quickly as possible, and Harrison was extricated with some difficulty from his perilous position. His clothes had been dragged into a bunch in front, and wound so tightly round the shaft that they had to be cut away before he could be released . He was still conscious, though apparently very seriously injured. MedicaLassistance was called in, and Dr. IRncl, on examining the man, found him to be suffering from internal injuries, while one of his arms was broken and both hips were bruised. Harrison was removed to the hospital by the doctor's orders. It was at first thought that he was fatally injured, but the hospital authorities now state, after further examination, that lie is likely to recover. Harrison is an unmarried man, about 20 years of age.
