KARANGAHAKE JUNIORS V. CITY JUNIORS.
The Karangahake Second Fifteen paid a visit to Auckland on Saturday, and played a friendly gairie with City 11. at Potter's Paddock. The visitors were considerably heavier tharMhe City, men, and after a well contested game, mainly confined to the forwards, the match ended in a draw, each side scoring 3 points. .Gladding obtained a try for City, while Shepherd scored for Karangahake. Mr Angus Campbell was referee: After the match the visitors were entertained at dinner at the Shakespeare Hotel by the City Juniors. Mr M. J. Sheahan, vice president of the City Club, presided, and welcomed the visitors, hoping that the match would be an annual fixture, and complimenting the Karangahake men on their good play and behaviour. The following toasts were drunk with musical honours: — "The Visitors," proposed by Captain Goldwater (city), responded to by Captain Jury (Karangahake); "The Referee," by Vice Captain Reid, Karangahake; responded to by Mr Campbell; "Host and Hostess," by Mr Bowman, responded to by Mr T. Foley; "The Chairman," proposed by Mr Foley. Songs were given by Messrs McMillan, Patterson, and Kelly. "Auld Lang Syne" brought a most successful and enjoyable evening to a close. Yesterday afternoon the two teams took a drive into the country.
