WAIHI, Saturday.

The West-City match was played this afternoon. Mr Poland refereed, and gave general satisfaction. City won the toss and had the advantage of wind and sun. Wyatt kicked off for West, the leather rebounding back. Flett made a line punt, bringing play to .West's 25, where the ball crossed the field, City establishing a rush, which McCall stopped neatly. From a pass out by Flett, which went wide, the West forwards got possession, but the oval was returned to the centre, where Trwin made a good line kick, west rallied again, and headed by Pascoe and Arns brought hostilities Into City's territory. Fielder, for City, relieved the presure by a smart return. From a line out at centre, Flett, Fraser, and Landy established a good, passing rush, the latter making a: good run along the line, but went over line. -The play following the line out came back to ; centre, where Garvey passed to Landy, who transferred to Fraser. The latter made a short run, and the oval passed to Thorn, who gained good ground. Central play, owing to City's defence, followed. West established a rush here, but Fielder smartly returned along the line. Open rushes ensued, Landy Thorn, Flett, and Jones doing good work. The blacks rallied again, but the West backs stopped the rushes by" quick'returns. Central play followed. From a mark by , Landy West forwards got possession of the leather, Thorn making a good rush down line to City's 25, where hard play followed. Irwin made a good pot at goal, but the oval struck the bar. From a free kick in West s 25 Boulham kicked a neat goal for City. West nil, City 3. When play was resumed Irwin punted along the line, bringing play into City's 25, where Thorn, from a mark, essayed at goal but the kick was against the- wind and^ the ball fell short In. the second spell, centre play followed the kick off until West rallied, and established a good passing, rush headed by. Jones, McCall, Irwin and Thorn, bringing play to the corner flag. Play then became open at the 25 where Black, West's full, kicked a sDlendid goal from the field.
