COROMANDEL FOOTBALL.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
COROMANDEL, Saturday
The match Hauraki versus City Juniors was played at Kathleen Paddock this afternoon. The attendance of spectators was very creditable. The City team were three men short, and local players were substituted to fill the vacancies. The game, which resulted in a win for trie home team by 6 points (2 tries) to nil. was well contested throughout. Ihe visitors played with considerable dash, and the back division showed good form. In the first spell City, who played with the wind in their favour, were several times hard pressed, and for the most part play was confined to their territory. From a passing rush .instituted by McIntosh, Barry crossed City's line and scored. Johnson's attempt at goal was futile. No further score resulted until nearly on call-of time, when T. McCormick scored for the home team. Tho kick at goal failed to increase the score. For the visitors, Mobberley, Gillesple, Johnston, Dalton and Mackeral played well, the backs by their fine kicking gaining a lot of ground for their side. Of the Hauraki, Johnson. McDonald, Barry, and Burdett were the pick of the backs, and Daley, McCormick, McGuihess were the most conspicuous of the forwards. After the match the visitors were entertained to a dinner at the Star and Garter Hotel, at which Mr A. T. Kenrick presided. About 40 persons sat down to an excellent repast provided by the genial host, Mr M. Corcoran. The usual toasts were proposed. Songs and musical items were rendered by members of both' teams, and altogether a very enjoyable evening was spent.
