WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.
The usual meeting of tbe Waikatc County Council was held on Friday afternoon last, a week earlier than usual. Tbe chief business was to'coiisidci what should be done with the Model Farm, which has been a source oi worry and expense to the Council ever since it was vested in that body Cr. Gordon presented a plan of the proposed improvements, showing the expenditure on draining, fencing, ploughing, and dividing it into sever allotments at a cost of £270. The chairman said the debt on the farm at present amounted to over £200, and the suggested improvements would bring it up to nearly £500. They had every reason to believe that about £150 a year could be obtained in the way of rents after the improvements had been made, while the yearly expenditure could be set down at £ 20, leaving a balance of £ 30. The Council approved of the proposal, aud the clerk was instructed to call for the tenders for the work at once. It was decided to strike a rate of one farthing in the £ throughout the whole county.
