GISBORNE, this day

A letter received from Mr Reginald Brett, who recently visited this district, to report on petroleum measures for an English syndicate, states that while his principals are satisfied with his report, commencement of operations is deferred owing to the war in South Africa, but it is hoped that as soon as the end of the war is in sight a start will be made to set the industry on its legs.
