MILL ACCIDENT AT ONEHUNGA.
A serious accident occurred n;t the Kauri Timber Company's mill at Onehunga yesterday afternoon about 4 o'clock, when, an elderly man named George Aimkrn.ni had the misfortune* to lose his right, hand. Au'ckram, who is a. very old mill hand, and who has been employed at the Onehunga mills for a long period, was engaged j working tihe tail of a drag bench, and !«t the time stated was lipping a 13 x ]. ft appears he loaned over tho tail Of the bench and reached forward 'to push the piece of timber up to tho gauge, and his hand, slipping, cam<» in contact, with the saw, tllie- hand being severed just above the wrist joint, Mr Van.se, the mill manager, who happenetl to be a.l hand at the time, immediately telephoned for Dr. Sco'bt, and temporarily applied a tourniquet. Dr. Scott was quickly on: the scene of the accident and after rendering what aid he could to the sufferer ordered Ihis removal to the hospital, where he is now progressing .as favourably as 'cam be expected. Groat sympathy is felt for Auekram in Onehungu. as he is an old and respected resident of tha.t tmvn.
