FIRE AT MT. EDEN.
Last night, shortly before midnight; |a tire broke out in a seven-roomed house in Helen Vale Kernel, Mt. Eden. The house was tlie property of; Mrs Blarapavt, of I'nrk Road, and was occupied by Mr Donald JMeLeod. insurance agent. The cause of the fire, seems lo have been a defective chimney, as it originated in the kitchen. Mr and Mrs MeLeod wore in bed at the time. The Mount Eden Fire Brigade jturned out smartly, but the water being1 turned oil" no supply was available, and they were unable to save the building1. Jt was not until the house I was almost en#v<?ly destroyed that water could be obtained from the mains. Captain Field and (lie Salvage , Corps were also present. Mr McLeod jhad his furniture and effects insried in the North German for £400. but all ;except some £9.:> worth was saved. Mrs Blampart has an insurance of £350 on I the house. i
