INSPECTION OF ROMAN CATHOLIC SCHOOLS.

At the meeting of the" Board of Education • this ' afternoon, Mr Hobbs moved: "That,'notwithstanding the decision to- the contrary dated March 28th, 18$), the Board hereby authorises the inspection of private schools trader the management of the Auckland Diocesan Board of Education, in accordance with the application dated January 18th, 1900, signed by the Very Rev. Dr. Egan, and subject to the provisions of section 98 of The Education Act, 1877."

Before any discussion took place a protest was read from the Mt. Eden School Committee against the inspection of Koman Catholic schools.

Mr R. Hobbs in submitting his motion said that although he had voted to the contrary before, he was now convinced of the expediency of the inspection of Roman Catholic, schools. Nearly 2000 of our children were now without the Board's inspection. As to the expense he "thought it .would not be great, and he thought the Government would help. He was of opinion that the present Act did not touch the question of inspection, and>he thought that the Board was quite within, its rights in inspecting Roman Catboiio schools.

The discussion was proceeding as wq went to press.
