ARRIVAL IN AUCKLAND.
His Excellency, Lord Ranfurly, accompanied by the Countess of Uanfnrly, arrived at Oiielmnga on board the G.s. Tntsmekui at 11.30 this morning. The ■ parly arrived in Auckland by the 1.15 p.m. train from Onehunga, and proceeded to Government House, where they remain during their short visit. His Excellency will attend the Maori King Mahuta's meeting to be held at Mercer on the 28th inst., and after spending a few days there he returns to Auckland. His Excellency hopes to be able to witness the departure of the Auckland portion of the Fourth Contingent, leaving Auckland again, in company with the Countess, for Dunedin.to witness the final embarkation of the troops from this colony. On arrival at Onehunga His Excellency received a cable message to the effect-that his unclefCo.theHon. Stuart Knox) was dead. Colonel Knox was guardian to His Excellency during his minority, and since his residence in New Zealand the deceased managed his Home affairs and acted as guardian to his son, Lord Northland Knox. Lord Northland is leaving the Royal Military College at Sandrich at Easter and hopes to get a commission in the Coldstream Guards now. serving in South Africa. Upon becoming aware of the disaster to the Vicfcman Contingent His Excellency and the Countess became visibly affected and immediately made anxious enquiries as to the New Zealanders.
