NEWMARKET.
The ordinary meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council was held last evening- in the Council Chamber, there being present: Mr J. McColl (the Mayor, and Crs.<. A. Seccombe, G. Smerdon, W. Edgerley, F. Bennett, C. Spooner and J. U. Caston. Electric Tramway Proposals.—The minutes of t 'special meeting Ae'ld to consider the proposed agreement or deed of delegation between the Newmarket Borough Council and the Auckland- Electric Tramway Company (Limited) were read. In addition to the Mayor and Councillors there were present Messrs Hesketh, Coleman, J. Stewart and J. S. Kidd. The Town Clerk read a list of sections confirmed by the meeting. A number of others were referred back for amendment to the solicitor for t/he Borough and the Tramway Company, each amendment or alteration to be considered at a future meeting of the Council. The minutes were read and confirmed.—The Town Clerk stated Mr Heskath was not yet prepared to answer the questions submitted, and go doubt another special meeting «vou]d require to be called. Sanitary.—A long letter was read from Mr E. Stockley, night contractor, in the Borough, in reply to a letter from the Council stating the penalty clause would be enforced against him fpr neglect. He said in two cases the men were locked out, and in another the. house was a new one untenanted. A series of complaints against the contractor were then read, and in two instances it was decided to enforce the penalty on the contractor. Water Supply.—The City Council's engineer wrote asking the Council^ to co-operate in preventing- water being used during the dry season by hose on gardens or otherwise. It was resolved that a notice be posted, on the Council board and an advertisement be also inserted in the papers asking consumers to conserve the water as much as possible. Lamp.—lt was resolved that the lamp over the Fire Brigade station be repaired and that red and white window panes be inserted with printed letters on the same. Glasgow Terrace.—The Streets Committee, recommended that owing to the rough condition of the paths tarring and sanding be deferred untiJ next season.—The report was adopted. Drainage.—The Streets Committee reported that with regard to the drainage from Mason's to Heron's property,
I the distance is about 112 ft. and could be connected at small cost. —After dis- ! cusion it was agreed to postpone the I matter for further consideration.
Accounts.—Accounts amounting- to £105 9/11 were passed for payment.
