!Ai meeting of the members of! the Grej" Lynn Boroug-h Council was held last evening when there were present the Mayor (Mr 11. T. Warnock), Councillors Axnbury, J. Farrell, Priestly, Booth and Brinsden.
Mr John JRosser made the customary declaration and took his seat as a Councillor for Surrey Ward, in the place of Mr C. Sexton, who had re--1 signed.
Cos's Creek Bridge.—The City Council wrote notifying- that repairs to Cox's Creek Bridge were now being done. The letter was received. The Mayor remarked that the structiu*e was really done and repairs he considered a waste of money.
Richmond Road.—The City Council also notified that at present that body could not undertake the cutting- down of this road.
Leighton-street.—Mr W. Colwell asked to have the footpath lowered in this street, as he wanted the earth. The Mayor said the Council required all the earth for filling up purr "s. Cr. Priestly said Mr Collwell v -1 to shift a small knob of earth wnieh turned the water into his allotment. The matter was referred to the Streets Committee with power to act.
License. —Messrs Hellaby Bros, applied for a license to kill cattle at Mrs Faulder's slaughterhouse, Richmond. The Mayor said Messrs Hellaby merely wanted to prevent the license from lapsing, but not to kill at that place. He moved that a license be granted at £1 per annum on the undertaking that no cattle be slaughtered on the place. Cr. Ambury said they must have a written guarantee there would not be any killing done, as there was not a proper water supply. "Even as matter of form it was unwise to grant =i license without a written guarantee. The Mayor Raid he agreed with Cr. Ambury. The guarantee would, he understood, .bp n written one. He would see that the Council would be safeguarded in that respect. Messrs Hellaby's sole object was to keep the license alive. The place was only used as a store. The application was referred back for further information.
Drainage. —Mr J. Bo.ylan, engineer, forwarded plans for the drainage of Leighton and Surrey streets, which were approved by the Council.
Sahitar.y. —The Foreman of Works reported visiting 310 houses in the borough. He found ten dirty yards, two defective drains, and six unsatisfactory water closets, all of wrhich had been remedied.
Richmond Ward—The Finance Committee reported that at present it was impossible to bring1 up a scheme for a water supply for Richmond, as the powers under the Act would not permit ratepayers to tax themselves sufficiently to raise a loan for the purpose of providing: water, while the rateable value of the property was so disproportionate to the area nf the ward. Cr. Ambury moved that the report be referred to the ward members and the ratepayers of Richmond Ward. Cr. Brinsden seconded the motion. The Mayor said the Council could not do anything further at present. Accounts to the amount of £91 14s lid were authorised to be paid. Tennyson-street. —The Streets Committee recommended that Tennyson-son-street be "drained. Cr. Ambury moved the adoption of the report, which was agreed to.
Princeps-street—Cr. Ambury also moved that plans be prepared for the drainage of Princeps-street. which was also agreed to.
