THE DEVONPORT COASTGUARD ARTILLERY.

The camp of the Devonport Coastguard Artillery Volunteers at Dnvon-port-has been Visited by a large numbev of people during- the last three days.. The men in camp, to the number of 70, present- a fine smart, soldierly 1 appearance, and aye for the most part young men under 25, years of age. On Sunday morning there was a ~ch.iirctJ parade in conjunction with the Engineers. Over 120 men marched *° church. Captain-Napier was in command of the whole* force, the Engineers being1 under the command of Acting-Captain Walker, and the Coastguards under Lieut. Gardner, with whom was associated Lieutenant Tarrant. The daily routine, of the Coasiguards is as follows: Reveille, 5.30 a.m.; parade, 6 a.m.; sick parade, ? a.m.; breakfast, .7 a.m.; dinner, 6.30 p.m.-; guard mounting-, ".p.m.; manning- the forts and big gun drill, 7.10 p.m.;. first port, 9.80 p.m.; last port, 10 p.m.; all lights out, 10.15 p.m. Strict discipline is maintained in the camp, and excellent order is presetted; in fact the-residents in the violaity say that were it not for the bugltS calls there would be nothing ift the evenings to indicate the presence of » large body of men Sergeant Grinlinton has been'orderly sergeant until today, and admirably carried Out M» orders. To-day Sergeant Wynyard t& lieved him, and will be on duty u"r'} Saturday next. During last night the torrents of rain that fell penetrafecltHe old and obsolete tents supplied to (he corps to the Defence Department, and the men's-blankets, straw, etc., were* saturated, but all was borne with great good humour. Captain 'Napier during the night ordered the men to take shelter in the old tramway stables. It is .to be regretted that tents 25 or 30 years old, in most cases almost in a rotten state, should be : supplied to volunteer encampments by the authorities.
