COUNTRY FOOOTBALL.
WAIKATO DEFEATED BY WAIPA
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent)
HAMILTON, Saturday
The return "rep" match Waipa t. Waikato was played here to-day, when Waipa again defeated their opponents, this time by 4 points to nil.
Both teams were somewhat weakened by the absence of several prominent men. Fine weather was experienced, but notwithstanding this very little decent football was shown, and passing was almost entirely dispensed with.
The Waipa. forwards were much too good for the Waikato in both line out and scrmn ■work and the backs more clever in attack. Waikato was called upon to defend most of the time.
The first spell ended without score?. About half way through the second 3. Bowden took the ball nicely and being cornered potted a pretty goal. This was the only score. On one occasion Pike (Waikato) carried the ball at his toe from his own 25 across his opponents' goal line but then lost the ball. Mr Williamson was referee.
On Wednesday next Waikato meet the Rotorua team at Hamilton and on the following Saturday Franklin and Waikato meet here.
