OHINEMURI DEFEAT WAITI.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
PAETUhV Saturday,
Probably the last inter-union match of the season in Ohinemuri took place this afternoon at Paeroa between the above unions and resulted in a, win for Ohinemuri by 10 points to ?,.
Ohinerauri were of course without the services of G. Gillett and in addition Parkinson Trevarthen and Conway failed to turn up whilst. Bradley was also absent for the first 15 rninuies of the game. Waihi had a good team and it was anticipated they would score a win; but though their forwards played as they always do, a hard fast game, the backs seemed unable to take advantage of the opportunities they got, their passingl and taking- being very poor. Their only redeemable feature was their kicking, which was at times good. Ohinemuri on the other hand, though outclassed In the forwards played to their backs ■with success, two tries being scored by excellent passing. The two teams were as follows: — Ohinemuri: Full back, McKay; threequarters, McLean, Bradley, Keating'; five-eighths. Ttockley; half, Jim Coote; forwards, Eagust, Cock, McMillan, Douglas, Mcfluire, Lvmdy, Wade, Dean. Sorenson.
Waihi: Full back, JVewdiek; threequarters, Landy, Gallagher, Johnson; five-eighths, Humphries: half, Garvoy; forwards, Flett, McLeay, Pascoe, Marehall, Dare, F. Clarkin, Cowan, Murphy and Aspott.
In the first spell, shortly after the commencement of the game, from n scrum in Ohinemuri's 25, Humphries got possession and dashed over the line, scoring for Waihi. The kick at goal was a failure. Ohinemuri were pressed for some time til! the arrival of Bradley and Denu, wnen matter^
became more even, and the spell ended without further score.
Tn the second spell Ohinemnri got on r nice passifisr rush between Coote. Rookley nnd McLean, the last named beating two Wnihi backs and scoringl. McLean himself added the. extra, point?. N"ot long after the best display of passimr ever seen on the Pueroa around toolc place. Tt was started by Coote on Ohinemuri's side of the half way and ended in "Keatincr scoring between the posts. The ball went from Coote to "Rockier, thence t|" Bradley and back to TJneklev, and loin turn 7~>assed to Keatinrr, who though tackled by Johnson got away and scored. McLean added the two points. l\ To further score took place, thonirh the Waihi forwards were on Several occasions dangerous, the Ohinemnri forwards h.emg1 evidently out of condition.
For Ohinemnri Bradley, ITentincr. McLean, Rocklev and Cooto nil played well amonest the backs. Ttoekley lieincll especially prominent, and doing an immense amount of work. Ba&rust plnvfd a splendid srame on the wine", and Cock on the other wine was also {?ood, but in the forward division 1/uiV 8y was nbont the only man who played renllv well.
Tnr Waih! Johnson. Humphries and Garvpf (brick), and Murphy. V. Warkin, f'ascoe, Ascott. McLeav. Marshnll and Cowan (forwards) all played well
Mr Beck, as referee, i gave satisfaction.
When the result of the AucklaudOtago match was made known this evening by a "Star" Extra, cheering took place all over the town, the Wai hi learn, who were just about starling for home .giving three cheers for Auckland with great spirit.
