MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL
MR A. KIDD RETURNED
UNOPPOSED.
Nominations closed to-day for the election of one councillor for each of the following Wards of the City of Auckland:—East Ward, North Ward, South Ward. Ponsonby Ward, Karangahape Ward," and Grafton Ward. The elections will be held on Thursday, 14th inst."
In the East Ward the retiring Councillor, Mr Alfred Kidd, was the only candidate nominated, and he was accordingly declared duly elected.
For each of the vacant seats in the other city wards more than one candidate was nominated, so that an election will be necessary in each instance. The nominations received by Mr T. Ussher, the Returning Officer, to-day were as under: —
East Ward: Alfred Kidd, nominated by R. Hellaby and Jonathan Winks.
North Ward: John Henry Hannan, nominated by J. C. Macky and K. Mahoney; Herbert Mayne Smeeton, nominated by A. H. Nathan and T. Huddle. Polling place, Central Mission Hall. Albert -street.
South Ward: John Thomas Julian, nominated by G. liiggins and J. L. Wilson; Robert' Tudehope, nominated by H. Walker and John Schischka. Polling place, St. James' Hall, Wel-lington-stret.
Ponsonby Ward: Joseph Beecroff, nominated by Walter Lambourne and S. Douglas; Christopher James Parr, nominated by W. H. Smith and G. Rainey. Polling place, Oddfellows' Hall, King-street.
Karangahape Ward: Henry Thomas Garrett, nominated by J.Catchpole and T. Prosser; James Jamieson, nominated by John Peet and J. Trenwith. I'olling place, St. Benedict's Hall.
Grafton Ward: James Baxter Lana Iley,. nominated by R. Wilson and Mrs M. E. Hooker; James Muir Paterson, nominated by Graves Aickin and J. Burton. Foiling place, St. Sepulchre's Schoolroom,. Symonds-street.
