FEDERATED AUSTRALIA.
THE QUEENSLAND REFERENDUM
MAJORITY FOR FEDERATION 4747.

BRISBANE, September 3
Great excitement prevailed at the federal polling-. The latest returns show: — Yes 32,198 Xo, 27.451 Majority for Federation 4,747
The metropolitan division recorded 5600 for, and 9944/ against; the Southern division 12,816 for, and 12,060 against; the Central division 4GG2 for, and 3417 against; and the Northern division 9146 for, and 1924 against.
The outside incomplete returns will increase the majority.
The Premier's electorate gave a majority of two to one against, and the electorates of other leading Billites had even heavier majorities against.
The. anti-Bill leaders addressed a large crowd after the poll, and predicted that the Bill would never pass Parliament. It would lead to the downfall of the Dickson Ministry.
The Federal leaders addressed an immense gathering, and met. with considerable opposition.
Subsequently a Federal banquet was held, and speeches made congratulatory on the result. The Federal flag was unfurled amid much enthusiasm.
