AFTER THE BATTLE.

A RIGHTEOUS VERDICT

BRISBANE, this day.

Mr Dickson, addressing the crowd, said, in spite of all efforts to prevent recording a righteous verdict, they had triumphed. When Parliament met the Government would be pre: pared at all costs and hazards, knowing they were supported by the people's will, to carry out federation.

The Premiers of Victoria and New South Wales sent congratulatory messages to Mr l)ickson.

SYDNEY, this day

The Sydney Morning Herald expresses gratification at the Queensland vote, and says possibly it may affect West Australia in joining.

The Sydney Daily Telegraph says: "As New South Wales is commitjted to federate, it is much better we should have the support of our natural ally in the commonwealth than be obliged to fig-lit our own hand against the Southern combination to which the circumstances inevitably give rise.'

The Telegraph predicts exacting political times when the bill comes before Parliament. It is well-known the Telegraph says that is was separation from the South rather than federation which caused the northern vote to go so strongly for the bill, and, if the issue in Parliament is made separation or acceptance of the bill, it will be impossible to tell what the result will be. If Queensland should be divided into three States the chance of all coming into commonwealth in reasonable time is remote.
