A CONTRACT DISPUTE.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
GISBORNE, this day.
The final settlement in connection with Mr T. B. O'Connor's contract with t!he Hnrbour Board took place yesterday, when the Board paid Mr O'Connor £575 for material used by the Board, damage to plant, and refund of deposit on signing the contract. It will be remembered that Mr O'Connor took a contract from the Board to widen and deepen the river, but the time being nearly up and the work not being nearly completed, the Board stopped the contract, and carried on the work by day labour, afterwards suing Mr O'Connor in the Supreme Court for £ 3000 odd. This case the Board lost, and were mulcted in some £250 of costs, and are now compelled to come to the above settlement to save further proceedings by Mr O'Connor.
