THE PRICE OF BREAD.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, this day,
In reply to complaints re the high price of bread, the bakers here blame the Trades Unions, by whom they are forced to pay high wages, and also con tend, that they have a right to charge higher than elsewhere because rent and other expenses are heavier in Wellington than elsewhere. The bakers also claim the right to make a profit to recoup them for the high price of flour last year. Nevertheless, no reduction has been made at all commensurate with the increase which was promptly demanded immediately flour began to rise.
