THAMES MINERS' UNION.

The quarterly meeting of the Thames Miners' Union was held on Saturday evening. Introducing the business the President (Mr Potts) referred to the action taken by the Committee with regard to the Mining Bills before Parliament. With regard to the Sunday labour prevention measure the Committee had made representations to the Government that the maximum fine (t'l) originally provided in the Bill was too small and ineffective, and the result had been that the maximum penalty was now raised to £5. The strike of engineers in England was discussed, Mr Potts stating that the Committee was in favour of a levy of one shilling on every member in order to assist the strikers. The proposal was unanimously earned.
