BRITISH AND FRENCH CLAIMS

LONDON, October 25.

Sir G. Taubman - Goldie, Governor of the Royal Niger Comnany of West Africa, "being interviewed with regard to the despatch of two British gunboats to Bouassa to support the .British claims to both banks of the Niger, and to the Frencli newspaper comments thereupon, stated that the assumption of a British protectorate over the Bouassa district was intimated to France in January, 1895. France then raised no protest against British action.
