WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Waitemata County Council was held this morning at the Council's office, Falmerston Buildings. All the members were present, Mr A. Bruce presiding-. Finance.—The annual balance-sheet for the year ending March 31st, 1897, was received from the Auditor-Gen-eral, duly certified by him, and was adopted and ordered to be printed. Monthly accounts amounting to £226 13/ were passed for payment. Birkenhead Roads.—lt was resolved to accept dedication of an additional road through Admiral Spain's land at Birkenhead, on condition that the road should be a chain wide, instead of half-a-chain, as proposed. Tenders. — Messrs Stewart Eros.' tender for supply and delivery of 350 cubic yards of broken metal for Maireta'hi roads, at 7/ a yard, was accepted. —Mr Coulter's tender for widening Piha road 40 chains, for £17 10/, was also accepted.

Correspondence.—William J. Moore Waimanku, asked the Council to reduce the grade on a steep hill near his house," he to pay half the cost. Granted.—Residents at Huia wrote asking: the Council to call for tenders for the construction, of Huia Road, from the point where it left off up to the Huia School. Referred to the engineer to deal with.—E. Warmoll wrote re proposed road through Mrs Warmoll's property at Takapuna. Resolved that road 'would be too expensive, unless the land were given free of cost. — The Avondale Road Board complained that no scoria had as yet \een put on the road to Avondale, while the drains, through long neglect, were worse than useless. The ratepayers considered that at least £30 per annum should be spent on the road, and that they were entitled to that amount. They proposed to bring- the matter under the notice of the Government, as the Council declined to do them justice. The letter was received.-— Messrs John Ray and G. H. Hatfleld wrote asking the Council to construct a road from Wainui to Cooper's Flat. Parakakau, offering to contribute halt the cost. Referred to the Engineer to survey and estimate cost. Council to pay half the cost if the work does not exceed £25. — Septimus Thorburn asked that the road through his land should be defined, as he wished to fence. Referred to the Engineer to report at next" meeting.—F. Bayer asked the Council to form a road of 17 chains length to his land at Upper Waiwera. Referred to the Engineer and Mr Satfield to report.—Alfred Buckland wrote asking to have the road made available for a buergy as far as the fence of his property 'it Helensville. Agreed to. Engineer to. call for tenders.

Eng-ineer's Report. —Mr H. Murt.ro Wilson, the County Engineer, reported re the City Council's grant of .£ 15 for scoria, that the City Engineer would not allow the £ 15 to be spent between the Whau Bridge and New Lynn, which was the worst part of the road. He had. therefore, been compelled to order the necessary scoria. The £15 would have to be spent on the roati between New Lynn and the Cemetery. Resolved that the Council take £15 worth of metal only and pay cartage.
