WENTWORTH.
(from ook own correspondent.)
This mine is situated to the south of the Golden Falls property, and is under the management of Mr Polton, who has a staff of ten men engaged. Five lodes have been discovered, but work ab presenb is being confined to the 4 feeb and Golden Falls reefs. The latter of these has been picked up in several places, and is now being driven on at the No. 1 level. Here the reef is divided by a horse of mullock into two portions, and driving is proceeding on what is termed the foobwall portion. This is aboub 18 inches in bhickness, wibh a westerly dip, and containing two distinct classes of quartz, one being a brown stone, which gives good dish prospects, while the obher is a bluish quartz containing wavy blue seams of sulphide. This does not yield gold in the dish, bub gives assay results from £0 to £5 per ton. This level is in a distance of 50 feet, the quarbz maintaining a good value throughout, and penetrating good sandstone. The hangingwall portion of the reef, separated from tho footwall by about 20 feeb of mullock, is from 18 inches to 3 feet in bhickness, and dipping bo the easb. The quartz is of the same character as that in the foobwall portion, and gives assay results from 30s to £8 per ton. A low level is boing put in to cub the reef at a depth of 150 feet. The country penetrated is of an excellent class. It is expected thab bhe reef will be cub in aboub 30 feeb furbher driving.
