THE OPOURIAO BLOCK.
At the Crown Lands Office to-day a ballot waa held for the selection of five section* of land in the Opouriao Block, near Whakatane, Bay of Plenty, which waa purchased by bhe Governmenb some bime ago. There were 92 applicants for the five aecbions. and of these five were disqualified. Mr Mueller conducted the ballot, which resulted in the following settlers obtaining the desired Bections on lease in perpetuity :—Section-1, block 20, Whakatane aurvey districb, Eli Bubberworbh, area 159 acrea 3 rooda 15 poloa, renb 2a per acre ; section 2, S. C. Crapp, area 190 acrea 3 rooda 24 Doles, renb 3a per acre: section 13, G. Brederick, area 116 acrea 1 rood 14 poles, rent 2s 4d per acre ; section 10, block 13, A. F. McGongan, area 105 acres, renb 7s4d per acre; section 11, Wm. Shepherd, area 97 acres, rent 6a 8d per acre. The whole of bhe block ia now taken up by settlers.
