THEOSOPHY AND BROTHERLY LOVE.
(To the Editor.)
Sra,—These crusaders of Theosophy seem tomato bo somewhat, inconsistent. They preach brotherly love while they are very anxious to mako known to the publio that there is no connection between them and another branch of Theosophista who are working on the same lines under Col. Oicottand JvJra BesanS. Is not this vary near akin to the spirit of the disciples who found some casting out- devils in the name of Christ, and told them they bad no right, no authority to do this t but the Great Teacher rebuked them. Is it not also akin to the exclusive authority claimed by the Roman Church? Would it not have shown better taste to have eaid nothing aboub any other branch of Theosophiste ? Why not stick to the work they have in view and meddle not with the work ef other?? Every man's work and every section 6f workers will be tried by fire and the dross barnfr away. Theosophista have a great work before them in promulgating one of tho greatest of all truths, the brotherhood of the great human family, both of the bad and" the good, and that love U at the basis of that brotherhood, and that deeds, not creeds or mere beliefs in dogmas, however true, will ba the ultimata test. If Theosophy can succeed in persuading men into the conviction that there ia no getting away from tha fact fcbab sowing and reaping are as inseparable as cause and effect, that they are cause and ofl'ect in all worlds, and that no amount of praying, penance, or the merits and righteousnessof another can or will alter fehia cause and effect of sowing and reaping, then Theosophy will have done much towards the regeneration of humanity. Further, if they can convince men generally that in every man and woman is the germ of a Divine nature waiting Divine love to develop ie, and that this must ultimately triumph over all evil, through suffering and diecipline. If the great Captain of our salvation was made perfect through suffering, there was a time when even He was nob perfect, and we musb all pass through tho same fires of suffering and discipline. If Thoosophists succeed in establishing these great truths in the hearta of men, traa Christianity will not be superseded but rejavenated, and in this we wish them God speed.—l am, etc. "J.-P.
