The Hon. Mr Hall-Jones addressed a well-attended meeting lasb nighb. He claimed thab the administration of the Governmenb had been beneficial. The country must be developed if it is bo hold its own against rival colonies He denied thab the Government posed as a nonborrowing Government, if thab meant the colony standing still. He defended the banking legislation, and said bhe reporb of both Committees completely exonerabed Mr Ward. The country would yeb ineisb on knowing who got the benefit of the four millions written off bho Bank ot New Zealand. A vote of thanks te the speaker, and confidence in the Governmenb, waß carried, there being only three dissentients. An amendmenb of thanks only was deteated by a large majority, only thirteen voting for ib. Tbe meeting broke up with cheers for Mr Seddon and Mr Hall-Jones.
