THAMES HAURAKI GOLD FIELD COMPANY.

(BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORKKPONDENT.)

Thames, this day.

This company intend carrying oub prospecting developments on a very elaborato scale. They commence the sinking of their No. 2 ohafb in the southern parb.ol the mine to-day. The site of the new Bhafb will be on the Company s; freehold allotments on the eastern eide of Relleston-skreeb. and directly oppoite the Kuuaeranga Boyo1 School. lhe far 3 t work undertaken will bo bhe cutting out of the shaft to the required size, 12ft in length by 4ft 6in, and sink it down to a depth of 20ft. The collar will then be built up and the braca constructed, no as to afford every facility for linulage, From thence a contract will be lets to eink tho shaft a further depth of 200 feeb, when solid formation should be met with. Tho exploiting of this section of the Company's property will open up a channel of country that has nevor in the history of the Thames gojdtields re, ceived one hour's prospecting. This was due, no doubt, to the heavy sedimentary deposits existing here. All previous attempts undertaken by parbies of miners have in every instance been abandoned just ab bhe time when the work should have been prosecuted wibh greater vigour, bub I suppose, the prospectors being poorly capitalised ab thab period, it) became a matter* of compnUion to suspend. The work of development has been left for this. Company to execute, and no doubb wben they commence their exploiting crosscubs they will meet wibh loses of all sizes. Whether auriferous or nob remains for developments to reveal. The work in hand in the Company's main engine shaft is advancing at a rapid rate. The contractors stripped and enlarged the shaft for the past week sufficient to allow of 4Jft of sets to be pub in place if necessary. This is equal to about 20fb. This rate of progress cannob bo considered otherwise than highly satisfactory, and there is noshing now to prevent a continuance of speedy work to the end of tbo contract, It may be added that ibis also bhe intention of the Company afc an early date to sink another ehaft on . the Deep Lorels Consolidated section of their property.
