WOMEN'S LIBERAL LEAGUE.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the above League was held lasb night in the Wesley Hall. There was a good attendance. Mrs Johnson presided. Two new members were elected.

Eight Hours League.—A letter was read from the secretary of the Eight Hours League, stating thab the election of delegates would take place about next July.

Servants' Half-holiday. —Mrs Kirkby re-oponed the discussion upon the question of a half-holiday each week for domestic servants. She advocated this course, which was supported by many members. — Mrs Carradus said it would not do to have one day fixed by law. She thought the servants should themselves unite to get it. —Mrs Gibaon supported this idea.—The President said she found that many mistresses already gave their servants half-holidays. Of course mosb sorvants were young and did not like to take action. —Mr Hughes expressed his conviction thab mosb servants bad cub their eyetoeth.—Mrs Cottingham said servants had a right to a half-holiday each week, but it should be left to tho mistress to state which day suited best,— Mrs Kew moved, •' That the mistresses bo invited to attend the nexb meeting of the League to discuss the question," — Mra Carradas said the girls would have to agitate themselves to gain the object aimed at.—Mr Hughes said this measure would require to be made compulsory by law, the same as the Shop and Shop Assistants Bill, bub it would nob do to fix the day. As for the servants, they would rather walk with their M chaps " of an evening than attend the League.—Mra Carradua moved, " That this League is in favour of the half-holiday for servants, and with the object of attaining that end invites servants to becomo members of the Leagua."—This was seconded by Mrs Rew. —This was agreed to. * A Suggestion. —Mr Kays suggested , thab papers on interesting subjects should be read at each meeting of the League. He offered to read a paper on the labour problem.—lt was resolved that honorary members be allowed to read papers.
