TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL
The Auckland Trades and Labour Council held their usual fortnightly meeting in, the Foresters' Hall on Saturday evening, Mr J. Fawcus (President), presiding. Delegates from all the affiliated societies were present?. The scheme proposed by delegates from the Liberal Association, Knightß of Labour, Workers Political Reform League, and Trades and Labour Council to devise means for securing better Liberal representation for the Auckland province, was considered and adopted./ The Council appointed six of their number to represent them on the Central Council, which it is proposed to form in connection with the matter. The application made by the Tramway Company to the City Council for permission to run trams on Sundays, was brought under the notice of the meeting, and the question was discussed at some length. Several members expressed their strong disapproval of the application being granted on the ground that it would mean a sacrifice of the tram employee's Sunday and increase their hours of labour, which wore already too long.'-The meeting decided to addreße the City Council on the subject, and forward their respectful but earnest protest against permission being granted. A Committee of four was appointed, in consequence of a letter received from the master: iron-workers, to consider tariffrayision aa far as it Affected the iron trade. " .
