INTER-COLONIAL FOOTBALL MATCH.
NEW ZEALAND V. NEW SOUTH
WALES.
LATER.
AN EXPLANATION OF THE DEFEAT
(BT TE&EGBAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
■■ -;*«-. - Cheisxchurch, this day. 'The New South Wales team left for the Coast this morning, still disinclined to play a return match. On taking the field on Saturday, the visitors' instructions were that the forwards, Bhould play as hard as possible, while the backs did nothing but kick: into touch to aave them. They put exceptionally strong forwards in. and their instructions were carried out to the ' letter. New Zealand sorely mißsed. Watson and Rab McKenzie in the scrums. The New Zealand team started with the idea of playing very oasy through the first, spell and scoring towards the finish of the second spell. Only when New South Wales 6cored was this varied; then New Zealand played up hard, put up two trieß, and when considering themselves safe, slackened off again. Unfortunately for them when they wished to score again Alf Bayly waa quite unconscious what he was doing, as the result of a collision, repeatedly mistaking which end^ be was playing from, and had to be presently taken off tho field. This quite demoralised the backs, apparently, for despite all efforts they could nob score, and the kicking out tactics of New South Wales left them little time to do anything,
